Starting a paranormal group
With the inception of TV shows like Ghost Hunters, Paranormal State, and Ghost Adventures the number of paranormal groups has exploded in recent years. A simple search of paranormal groups on the internet will reveal that there are paranormal groups in just about every state.
Unfortunately, many paranormal groups have discovered that starting a group and maintaining or building a group are two entirely different things. Many groups never make it past a year.
It takes a lot of effort to start a group but maybe even more to grow and maintain it.
To start a group, you have to find people which may be harder than it seems. Especially finding committed people. It’s easy to find thrillseekers and people who want to go “ghost hunting.” It’s another story to find people who are committed and willing to put in the effort needed to start and maintain a group.
There are some things you should consider when starting a paranormal group:
If you’re group chooses to be a 501(3)c non-profit organization someone has to file for that which takes time. Having non-profit status allows your group to legally conduct fundraising efforts. Eventually, the group will need some money to cover website costs and other expenses which may arise.
Your group should have a set of bylaws and a code of conduct. Without clearly defined rules problems may arise.
Someone will need to plan the agenda and schedule meetings.
Someone will need to be willing to act as a President, Vice President, Tresurer, and Secretary for the group.
Someone will need to get the word out that your group exists. Otherwise, how do you get investigations?
If you have no equipment you have to decide if you’re willing to put up your own money for those items you will need.
Someone will need to be able to line up investigations.
You have to be willing to listen to hours of audio and view hours of video which may contain nothing. Otherwise, why bother doing the investigation?
As you can see, there is a lot to consider when starting a paranormal research group. None of it will happen overnight. It will take time. It takes effort and willingness to put in the time needed to maintain the group but if done correctly having a paranormal research group can be both rewarding and fun.
